The Skin Alley disease may be different in different people. Psoriasis patches as they are called may just comprise of a few spots of dandruff like scaling in some people or it may be major eruptions which can spread over larges areas in some people.

Experts are of the opinion that psoriasis occurs in cycles. These may include flare ups for a few weeks or months, and then the disease symptoms may reduce or completely disappear for a certain period of time. It can again start after a few days making it difficult to manage. Psoriasis has different types. These are

Plaque Psoriasis – This is the most common form of the disease which affects a vast majority of people. Dry and raised skin lesions covered with silvery scales is the major symptom that can help doctors to diagnose the disease. These plaques can be itchy or painful. They can be less or more in number and can affect every part of the body including the soft tissue inside one’s mouth

Nail Psoriasis – Nail psoriasis causes abnormal nail growths and discoloration causing pitting. The nails may in turn loosen themselves from the fingers or toes and can also crumble in severe cases.

Guttate Psoriasis – This type is very common in children and young adults. Strep throat is usually the first symptom followed by small, water drop sized eruptions on legs, arms, trunk and scalp. These are further covered by fine scales. It maybe a single outbreak or may comprise of repeated episodes.

Inverse Psoriasis – This affects the skin in the armpits, groin, under the breasts and around the genitals .It causes smooth patches of red, inflamed skin which worsens in condition with sweating and friction. Fungal infections are the chief cause behind this type of psoriasis.

Pustular psoriasis – This type is not common but it can occur in patches over hands, feet and fingertips. It progresses quickly causing pus filled blisters which occur and go away frequently. Sometimes it can also cause fever, chills, severe itching and even diarrhoea. Psoriasis is not contagious and does not get transmitted by physical contact. The exact cause of psoriasis is still not known. But experts attribute it to a combination of elements like genetic predisposition, overactive immune system and environmental factors
